How to Disable Postgres logs

Modified on 2012/01/21 16:43 by nilay Categorized as Uncategorized
To turn off logging, follow these instructions. This is the first thing I do anytime I install SQL for someone.

- Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > UnCheck 'Hide Extensions for known file types' > OK

- C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\data\postgresql.conf > Right-Click > Open With.. > NotePad > Check 'Always use this program'

- Scroll about half way down to ~Lines 245 - 260:

- The last line of this block of code, for the 'logging_collector', must be changed from On to Off.

Once you have done this please delete the log folder to reclaim disk space. Mine is on and this folder C:\Program Files (x86)\PostgreSQL\8.4\data\pg_log

Here is a good explanation about turning it off http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showpost.php?p=16744180&postcount=2

Lastly download a free program Tree Size free https://www.jam-software.de/customers/downloadTrial.php?article_no=80&language=EN&PHPSESSID=fp7lgrsniambn9o90aae4d73r6 once you open the program click on Scan and wait till its done. after that click on the + symbol to expand and get more details so no longer groping in the dark. You will know exactly which folders are eating up your hard disk space.
